How To Kill Your Family by Bella Mackie REVIEW

hannahshilling

Murder is always a good plot point.

I LOVED this book.

I enjoy the majority of my books, whether that is luck or knowing what I like but I really loved this read. It is gripping from the get-go; we meet Grace – the murderess – she is writing from within prison, penning her play-by-play of her family murders. Grace’s perspective is so interesting and captivating and the murders come across fantastically natural.

“Kathleen is dead, no forensic expertise needed here, since you definitely need your head to be attached to your body to stay alive, and a tree branch has considerately removed that requirement for me.”

You hit her first murder in the first chapter, by which Bella Mackie has set up Grace’s calculated and calm reasoning for the murders without rush or pomp. Her writing is funny and clever, without ever feeling over-dramatic or unrealistic.

If you feel stuck at home or in work, this is a great story to entertain yourself with as you follow Grace into Spain, hushed-up London sex clubs and “a balmy night” for a pond-side murder. I really do not want to say anything more about this book – if it intrigues, please get yourself a copy! It’s a literary treat to dip into this darkness.
